                              Activities
Relax on the deck
With the delicious views from the deck, it is almost hard to imagine guests might want to leave the house for other activities. Yet if that is your desire, many choices abound.

In Big Sur, two elegant, award winning restaurants--Ventana and Post Ranch Inns--are about a mile away. Nepenthe restaurant hugs the coast with amazing views and great hamburgers. You can stroll through a sprinkling of art galleries, or hike on hundreds of miles of trails. Visit the Henry Miller Memorial Library and the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

Go fishing or horse-back riding, relax on the beach, or enjoy the grassy meadow and ceanothus flowers. Wildflowers (poppies, lupine, et. al.) and daffodils appear in the spring. Whale watching is best in November, December and January when the California Gray Whales travel 7,000 miles from the Arctic to Baja California where they give birth to their calves. One can watch from shore or take cruises out of Monterey.

Two hours to the South is the world-famous Hearst Castle at San Simeon. Tours are available year-round, and advanced reservations are recommended.

Forty-five minutes north is the Monterey Peninsula. Enjoy quaint, unique shops in Carmel-by-the-Sea, world-class golfing in Pebble Beach, and visit Pacific Grove, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Laguna Seca Race track, and Monterey's Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf.
